I’ve always wanted to get a S Series flagship. I have always wanted to get a Note Series flagship. Now I have both of them in the S22 Ultra.After a long wait, Samsung finally merged the S and Note series which was inevitable and I am glad they did.The S22 Ultra is the phone to beat this year. I have had my relationship broken with Samsung 12 years ago because of the unethical behaviour of their service center staff. The staff broke my phone after an argument when they were not able to fix an issue in the new phone even after 3 visits. And, Samsung did nothing even after filing a complaint.In last 12 years I have used 14 major flagship devices from different companies. But didn’t bought any Samsung goods.Today, after 12 years I dicided to give second and last chance to Samsung. Pre-booked this phone. Hope this will be good experience now.Here is my observation after using this device a few days.Pros:1. Awesome build quality.2. Camera (and zoom) is next level3. Speakers are loud with quality sound.4. Good network modem. My iPhone 13 struggles to get network coverage inside the home but there are full signals in Samsung phone from the same network operator.5. S pen is great addition to the S series and it works really well and fast.6. Display is really smooth and awesome7. Very touch sensitive.8. One UI seems to be promising.9. And finally, it does include the Snapdragon processor in India unit this time instead their inferior Exynos processor which helps in improving battery life and image processing.Cons:1. Doesn’t come up with charging adapter. In the name of environment they fool customers to buy chargers saperately to make some extra bucks.2. Having a case inside box would have been nice like OnePlus provides one.3. There was no screen protector applied to tne display. So if you want to protect screen from the day 1, buy 1 screen protector along with the phone.4. Slower than last gen OnePlus 9 pro (12GB – 256GB). I compared keeping them side by side and disappointed by the Samsung in terms of App installation speed and gaming performance.

I bought the Phantom Black 512 GB variant of S22 Ultra. I pre-booked the device along with the Watch 4 offer. My net cost after all discounts and offers for the combo was Rs. 1.14 lakhs.RATINGS: OVERALL 9/10Camera: 10/10 (the best photography on a smartphone; for videos however, iPhone 13 Pro would be best though).Software: 9/10Display: 10/10Battery Life: 6/10Charging speed: 7/10Sound and Haptics: 7/10Performance: 9/10Features: 9/10Call quality: 8/10Heating: 8/10 (the phone runs warm most of the time; this could be because of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor)Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner: 10/10 (it is impressively fast and accurate)Face Unlock: 9/10 (it is superfast in well lit environments, but doesn’t work in dark environments)Here’s my review after almost a year of use:CONS1. This is a 2 handed phone. It is big and you’ll be uncomfortable using it with one hand. I wish the phone was slightly narrower and came with a grippy sandstone case.2. No pre-installed screen protector. I don’t think you’ll find a perfectly fitting screen protector either due to the curved edges.3. Battery life is just okay. I get about 4 to 5 hours SOT on a full charge.4. Charging speed is bad. I bought the Samsung 45W Travel adapter and it takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge the device. This is pretty slow compared to what we see with OnePlus/ Xiaomi/ Oppo/ Vivo phones.5. No charger or earphones in the box. Only the phone and a Charging cable (tpye C to type C) is provided.6. Phantom White in 512 GB is not available in India (only 256 GB is available). I wanted it, but had to settle with the Black option. Some reviewers say that the Black variant gets scratched easily for some reason, so keep that in mind.7. OneUI doesn’t use Material You theme of Android 12 in it’s full glory. Some people may like it, some would prefer the stock Android feel as seen on Pixel and Motorola devices. It’s not bad though, but just not a refreshing change. So putting it in CONS section.8. Status bar icons are not too customizable. However, if you install GoodLock modules, they can be customised.9. Curved Display: This has no practical use. They only look good on marketing materials. When you are actually using the phone, there is absolutely no benefit. On the contrary, content gets bent at the edges and not great especially when watching videos or photos.PROS1. The best camera on a smartphone for photography. For videos however, iPhone 13 Pro is best. I bought this phone primarily for 2 reasons: the cameras, and the S-Pen which comes with it’s own housing.2. S-Pen: Only phone with the pen feature.3. The best Display on a smartphone. I have kept the default FHD+ resolution (120 Hz adaptive refresh rate) just because there is hardly any difference you’ll notice between FHD+ and WQHD+ on a small screen, and also because there is hardly any content that is of such high resolution. So I switched back to the default setting to prolong battery life.4. Feature rich software: This has both plus and minus points. Minus because more and more features means more chance of bugs and device slowing down due to bloatware. It also consumes battery. On the positive side, you can do a lot of things, although much of it is fancy, non-essential stuff.5. One handed use option (software feature) is very nice.6. Switching between light and dark themes is very smooth along with adaptive pallette selection.7. Phone has built-in call recording feature (atleast in India) without the stupid voice announcement. As of 2022-2023, Samsung, iQOO and Vivo phones are the only phones that provide this feature. All other phones come with Google Dialer with the stupid voice announcement. On OnePlus phones, user can install ODialer (from Google Play Store) to enable automatic silent call recording.8. Performance is very good.9. The superbright screen is easily readable in direct sunlight and no screen bleeding or inconsistent color observed.The adaptive brightness works flawlessly.4. Virtual RAM works wonders. The already adequate 12 gb of ram is complemented by the virtual ram feature and is a boon for multi tasking and gaming.5. S-Pen features. I have always been a die-hard fan of the S-pen and have craved to use a flagship device having the feature for my daily work and gaming use. Samsung updates: I was concerned about the android updates as Samsung was notorious for non-updation of their old flagships. However, I was relieved to find out that Samsung has promised 4 years of updates. So that is a real peace of mind. And my device has already received 2 software ,firmware and security patch updates via OTA.Cons:1. One UI. The most irritating part is Non availability of Google voice assistant. Everytime I try to use the voice assistant, the Bixby routine assistant is prompted. Samsung must go ahead and drop it’s Bixby assistant which is not as optimised and versatile as Google assistant.2. Curved screen. In a way the screen is immaculate and accidental touches are avoided if we switch on the accidental touch option. But curved screens are a headache and prone to accidental touches. I so miss the flat screen on my One Plus 7T.3. App drawer horizontal navigation.The app drawer just cannot be modified to scroll vertically. I downloaded the good lock app and the home up drawer customisation is not up to the mark. Samsung needs to optimise this.4. The Galaxy app store needs to be synchronized with Google Play store so that unnecessary pop-ups and useless apps are not recommended.5. Heavy animations consume battery life and need to be disabled manually.6. It’s camera & especially night camera performance is of top notch, similar to iphone 13. I have uploaded the samples. All three cameras & front cam has night mode. OIS is great & works at FHD 30/60 FPS on main & ultra wide cam. You can shoot from 720p to 8k in various cameras. Portrait pics come awesome in all cameras. Colour reproduction is very natural.Performance wise it’s a good phone with flagship SD 8 Gen-1. Its a power hungry processor. SD 8 Gen1 still lags behind apple’s Bionic A15 in numbers. Well there was price difference of 10~15k when I purchased.One thing that Samsung is still lagging behind many brands is bettery performance. I’m not a gamer, but even with regular apps (Browsing/insta/Primevideo/Netflix) this phone gives meager 4~4½ hrs continuous usage & 5-8 hours intermittent usage (screen on + standby) depends on how you use it (Pic attached). ‘Always-on-display’ reduce battery life considerably. There no doubt that it one of the best Android smartphone you can buy, however it is the same size as my Redmi note 10 Pro Max but bulky, you need to be careful while using it in one hand as Screen is very fragile and there is no case or cover out there that can protect screen but only edges can be saved by a case.Now the operation is very smooth, camera is also good but you need to be more cautious and aware about the camera operations, because it wont click nice picture automatically as you might have seen in reviews. So, there should be a little photographer inside you to produce good images, otherwise if you just start clicking pics randomly, you won’t find it attractive at all, it will be very similar to other normal smartphones, grainy and blurry and what not. So, keep that in mind, it can take good quality pictures and videos but you should know how to get it from this device. Best selfie camera in any phone I have ever seen, I wish they have done the same with rear camera as well, just open front camera and take a pick and it will be hard to delete that as it will look great.Battery life is the weak point with this phone, won’t last whole day if you are a heavy user. If you will use camera extensively then it will last even lesser. 15 min of camera use will consume 15-20% of battery life and it will heat as well while using camera, specially while recording videos in 4K, you will feel it on top of cover as well, but it didn’t hampered any operations yet (maybe throttling in the background, but not that much noticeable to user).Display is one the best you would find, pleasure to watch anything on it, however I am not a gamer and didn’t tried any game except candy crush.Due to the fact that it is very fragile, I have bought 2 year comprehensive warranty for this phone, that will over 1 damage to the phone each year for two years. So far so good except the intermittent issue with media speaker distortion. This seems to be a global issue with S22 itself.Though it is refurbished, i received the model with 1 month old manufacturing date, so it is like almost new.Everything is working fine so far. Battery life to be tested.

Samsung displays cannot be compared to any phones, including premium smartphones like iPhone Pro, OnePlus Pro, etc. When comes to display, Samsung is Samsung.3) Excellent build quality with matte finish glass and steel frame with Gorilla Glass Victus + on both sides.Cons:1) Beware! All Samsung dual speaker phones have one peculiar issue. During the calls, if the loud speaker is turned on, top speaker produces voice only 10-20% of a sentence and bottom speaker produces complete sentence. So this means, top speaker voice breaks. I went to Samsung Service Centre and the problem I found even with the service agents smartphones. I tested with Samsung S10, S20+, S20 Ultra. The service guys phones, themselves, have this problem. And they said that they can’t do anything. I called Samsung service centre also, for which they said that they will escalate the issue but of no use. One can adjust with this, IF THE PHONE IS CHARGED FASTER with other fast chargers. But the nonsensical thing is, it charges very slowly with other chargers even though if it is high-speed chargers. I tested with OnePlus 80W charger, 30W dash charger and MI fast charger. Our charger-less Samsung phone is charging very slow with all the chargers. So this means, we have to buy charger separately without compromise. I really don’t know how can they be so merciless to not provide charger after charging such a huge amount.This phone is only for those who desperately want compact phone with fully loaded features, who use phone moderately. I have bought 2 more refurbished phones before this and had good experiences. But this time the unit I received had significant scratches. I talked to amazon about this and they claimed that they were “normal signs of use” and refused to take it back. So, if you are sensitive this stuff then I don’t recommend amazon refurbished for you because it will be like playing the lottery; You may luck out and get a unit perfectly new or get units like mine.

At home when I am on wifi network still I have to charge it every evening by 5 pm as it touches 30 percent from 100 percent in just 8 to 9 hours.2) if I use it with 2 sims battery drains much faster.3) 120hertz refresh rate I won’t advise for outside the home usage when mobile will run sim through internet. It drains battery faster.4) Auto brightness though very well calibrated I found that manual control on screen brightness is better to conserve battery.5) The mobile has heating issues which I believe is a issue with all phones having 8 gen 1 processor.6) The front camera is average and struggles in low light.7) Though back cameras are awesome but still they struggle very badly if pointing at sun.
